Hunter Sword

Description

For Miburohunter929. (I don't know if he has a DA account.) Unlike my other gift-swords, I was actually asked to make this. But since I like the guy and got free hands regarding the design, I thought it would be fun. :)

This here's a "Großes Messer", or Grosse Messer, which was a two-handed, falcion-like cutting sword mostly used by European commoners throughout the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, as it was a relatively inexpensive weapon that still packed a ferocious cutting power. ( [link] ) Some claim these swords have cut people in half, and comparisons to the Japanese katana are often made.

Obviously, I've taken some liberties with the design, incorporating a lot of oriental or plain fantasy elements; notably the extra pronged blade on the back. I considered not adding it, since it's mostly just for show and giving the sword that half corny, half badass look. But then I remembered who the sword was intended for and kept it. ;p

It's also kinda oversized. I'm not sure if you can tell with these pictures, but this is a huge sword. Not unrealistically huge, of course, but still pretty huge.

Due to the size of the image the Full View is slightly downsized. Download for a closer look.

That's an interesting and unique design for a sword, but what is the bit on the flat of the blade near the hilt for?
